"Unregistered SIM" appearing on new RAZR2 V8

Please can someone help me out in a hurry ? I yesterday received a brand new RAZR2 V8 luxury edition phone, ;unlocked; , which I purchased through ebay.


As it happens the phone was sent from Hongkong, yes, brand new with all the seals in tact, and made in the UK.
However, on inserting my O2 contract SIM., I get ;unregistered SIM; message.I have another 2 contract SIMs on O2 in my houshold, and they come up with the same message.Leads mev to believe that this phone is locked up to some other service provider, but the seller assures me it is unlocked.

Unfortunately I don't have access to another SIM from a different service.
Can't help feeling that I need to be doing something to the phone myself, other than throwing it against a wall, ofcourse!There is within the settings program a means to register with a service provider, which i have attempted several tiimes only to get a ;operation failed because network is busy; message.


Where do I go from here, the seller has indicated he would reimburse me, but the phone is really fab, a gold one, for my wife, and half the price they're selling for over here!!
