recommendations on pocket sized media tablet?

which media tablet do you recommend?
some examples: ipod touch, archos 43.
these are the specs that are important to me:

- good audio quality and when over ear headphones still be able to hear loud.
- hd video playback
- fits in pocket but still acceptable to watch videos on, roughly ipod touch size.
- either very large hard drive: 64GB + or, which i prefer, removable sd card or something like that.
- WiFi
- proper internet browsing capabilities
- not forced to use a software like itunes to use, like the ipod.
- touch screen, prefer multi touch
- removable battery would be nice but not a must.
- cool apps are nice but i know that most gadget that dont use itunes dont have good ones.

i think thats all, if you recommend me one and you find other cool features or specs of that gadget mention them too.
i kinda dont want to buy something from apple, but i realize the ipod touch is pretty cool. i thought about the archos 43 but i first want to know if theirs nothing else out there, and is the archos 43 the latest model? if yes anyone know when a new one is coming out?

how does the archos 43 sound quality compare to the Sony Network Walkman NW-HD5?

Best Cheap Used Net Phone for Virgin Mobile?

I'm switching from verizon to virgin to get unlimited everything and 300 mins monthly for $25. I thought I could just get one of those $80 used droids off ebay and connect it. I called virgin 3 times to get a clear answer on which phones could be used on their service-the 1st time i was blatantly lied too, the lady told me i MUST buy a brand new phone THROUGH virgin in order to utalize the $25 a month plan as if it were a catch to the bargain. I called back again, got a different person ,who told me it could be any phone as long as it's compatable, third call, I found out that it has to be a virgin phone new/used because virgin doesn't use sims cards. Anyway, so what's a good smart/net phone I could use with virgin hopefully used for under $80? I NEED the following features:

-decent like 2MP or more photo and camcorder THAT CAN BE UPLOADED TO COMPUTER, not stuck in phone forever.

-1G or more mp3 player, hopefully with standard 1/8 inch headphone jack so don't need adapter to use headhones

-3 inch or so screen, not a small flip phone

-prefer not a touch screen as i don't like anything that fragile on me always to worry about breaking

-can run youtube

-has a GPS like for driving directions unless this is an app for any phone

I never had a smart/net phone, so please suggest anything else you think i might really want in the phone.
thank you very much

Reply 5 : Best Cheap Used Net Phone for Virgin Mobile?

suprisingly, the 4 ones suggested/listed on virgin's webiste are basically all i could find used on ebay with the features i want. i originally thought these were the latest phones and i could find something older with slighly less features for a much lower price used. Just to clarify, the phone must have a virgin emblem on it for the $25 beyond talk unlimited everything 300 talk mins plan. however lg101 phone won't work but it's a very basic phone

best phone and plan for a college student

I'm loosing my mind and I don't know which cellphone is the best for me, Im a colllege student who needs a smartphone for checking emails, and do some web surfing, right now I got a curve 8520 which is horrendous is always freezing, I want a faster cellphone which can record HD video, good browsing and no freezes, also a good mp3 player because I don't own an ipod.

I was thinking of the iphone because the variety of the accessories the phone has(like fm connectors to your car) but im worried to exceed the data plans and also the voice plans are so expensive, I barely use like 80 mb monthly on my bb, but I know that will change with an iphone, does the android uses less data?

Note: I'l be on campus most of the time, so there's wi fi there and on my house

Can I replace my PDA with a cell phone?

I have an ASUS MyPal A626 PDA (Windows Mobile 6) that is on it's last legs.

I check hotmail, gmail, msn mnsbc, yahoo, google reader, google voice, daily as I am forced to wait around for hours. Wi-Fi is available and that is the method I prefer to connect.

I don't actually use a phone that much and most calls are less than 5 minutes, I can use google voice for txt.

I wonder if there is a phone available that will closely emulate what I do now. It would be nice to just have to keep up with one device.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If we eject the phone and not consider the Virgin Mobile 25 buck a month plan I'd say you start with http://droidfreeapps.com/2010/08/android-tablet-archos-reveals-five-new-android-tablets-for-fall/

If your thinking of going to Straighttalk, don't do it!

I switched to Straighttalk three months ago. I have had trouble with my Samsung phone shutting off by itself. After several calls they did agree to replace the phone. Only problem is they won't send a phone until they get mine. They say it takes about a week. How am I supposed to go without a phone for a week? The other problem is I can't transfer all the contacts to the new phone if I don't have them both.

I did a little research before switching and didn't find a lot of information about Straighttalk. If anyone is wondering, the customer service is no good! It sounds like the customer service is based in a foreign country.

Reply 1 : If your thinking of going to Straighttalk, don't do it!

I had some trouble with mine and they had me do an update, much like the update I had to do when I was with Verizon. Verizon's update was
*228 - I can't remember, since I only did it once but I want to say that Straight talk update was *2281. Don't take my word for it, call their tech support in the morning - like 7am. and ask how to update your phone. I think it's *2281 though. you'll want to do it with option 1 and after that finishes you'll want to do it all over again and choose option 2. It really does work, just not sure about the number to dial

Reply 2 : If your thinking of going to Straighttalk, don't do it!

I have already jumped through all the hoops they had. The update for me was *22890

Thanks for the help.

Reply 3 : If your thinking of going to Straighttalk, don't do it!

TERRIBLE!! I purchased a Straight Talk phone and a $45.00 service card. After just a couple days I was unhappy with the phone and service and switched my number and service to a new provider. Since there was already time (that I purchased) on the phone, and there was nothing wrong with the phone I decided not to let it go to waste and get the Straight Talk phone turned back on with a new number. I was then informed I needed to purchase ANOTHER service card to reactivate! The original one I bought was good until April 6! Should still be good! They tell me that because I ported my number to another phone, I basically just GAVE them $45.00! THEIVES

Reply 4 : If your thinking of going to Straighttalk, don't do it!

Why would you port then switch back and expect them to roll out a red carpet? You voluntarily switched providers. Do the math.

If you want more advanced service from a wireless carrier, then you have to pay for it. Period.

Reply 5 : Cell Phone to Home Phone Adapter

When my last cordless phone died a year or two ago, I bought a Vtech cordless phone system with bluetooth cellular link. It came with four handsets and connected to two cellphones plus the landline. I got it at Costco for around $100. It works great. When I come into the house, I put my cellphone down and it links up to the cordless base. The sound quality is good and it has some nice features. It's not exactly the same as the unit you posted, but if it meets your needs, will do pretty much the same thing. You don't need a land line for it to work and you can even download your address book from your cellphone into it. You can also use the land line and cell connection simultaneously on two handsets.

How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

I have the original Motorola Droid and have had a data package for about a year and a half. I just graduated and got a corporate job. When I try to put my corporate email (vs my college email) on my outlook account, it won't work. I went to Verizon and they advised me that I need to upgrade to a corporate data package. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pay an additional $15 (on top of the $30 I'm already paying) just to check my work email. I cannot forward this email for security reasons. Does anyone know a way to gain access to this email without having to pay for the corporate data package? I've been a loyal Verizon customer for 10 years and I've made excuses for all their other ways to make a buck, but this one very well may put me over the top.

Reply 1 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

The new work place should have an IT person to set this up for you.

Bob

Reply 2 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

The IT people and I have been through EVERY option we can think of and we can't figure out. We even tried factory restoring the phone, updating the phone, and every domain and username combination we can think of. They said they've never had this problem with other phones so I wonder if it's an issue with my phone. So, I took it to Verizon for them to take a look and all they tell me is I need the corporate data package...aka... they need more money for me to have the same stuff I've already had. Any other suggestions?

Reply 3 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

It's more likely the company email server is not exposed to the internet.

Ask about their webmail access next.
Bob

Reply 4 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

I can access the mail through the internet via the exchange server but I should be able to set it up on Outlook (as I did on my home computer). Every other employee is able to access their work email through outlook on their phone, as well as access to their calendar. Currently, I have to sign on to exchange through the web browser and check my email that way. So it's doable, just annoying and inconvenient. I would REALLY like to access this email through outlook.

Reply 5 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

Outlook does not run on Android yet. I am left to guess too much.

Let's hear more.
bob

Reply 6 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

I always assumed the email option on my Droid was Outlook. I set it up the same way as Outlook on my computer and the icon looks like Outlook to me, but I could be wrong. I've easily had my University email working through the email app on the Droid since I got the phone. It's just when I try to install the corporate email, it accepts the account but then nothing. I cannot receive or send emails from the account. Other people I have talked to, upon setting up their corporate email, they said that the phone prompted them to set up a password. I had no such prompt. I even went and set up a password independently but it made no difference. I just tried factory restoring the phone again, hoping to erase the history but I know it doesn't erase everything, as my background remains the same. I'm out of ideas. The IT people gave up and told me to go get an iphone.

Reply 7 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

But I'm working in a vacuum on this. I wonder if the droid OS on this is old. And I read Outlook and now you recanted that but can't tell what the mail app is.

It's a shame but I can't tell what's amiss here.
Bob

Reply 8 : How to avoid a corporate data package through Verizon.

I appreciate your help Bob. In an odd way, it's kind of reassuring. Upgrading the OS on the phone was another option, but the phone assures me it is up to date. Maybe the phone is so "old" (technology old=1.5 years) that the highest compatible OS is not good enough for the corporate email. I still just can't believe Verizon wants me to pay an extra $15 a month just to gain access to this email. I don't make enough for that! Unlimited data should be unlimited data... not unlimited data and then CORPORATE unlimited data.

Thanks again for your help. If you hear of anything, let me know!

CK

BTW... Thanks Bob for the quick response. I wish the IT people could help me more as well.

I need a pocket sized address book that can sync with WinXP

I need a pocket sized address book that can sync with WinXP. Any other tasks the device can do are a plus (and might help me choose). What device has a good address book that could be seen as a Rolodex replacement? Most things like this I've found seem to only be compatible with Windows 200 or older. I don't want my phone loaded up with my work contacts but I want that info easy to access. The most important thing would be the ability to look up the business name and find the names of the people there and other notes about them and the business. Any suggestions?

3G Mobile Hotspot vs Fio

Hi All:
I'm not super technologically savvy so forgive me if I use language a 5th grader could understand in this. happy

I just got an LG Vortex with 3G Mobile Hotspot. I was considering cancelling my home Wifi through Verizon Fios in favor of using the 3G hotspot. I was thinking of this for money. The Hotspot is $20 a month vs $65 a month for Fios (25 Mbps). Does anyone know if that would be a good idea? Or what would be bad about it? We only have 1 home laptop. I do connect to work via VPN but that's about the only "major" thing we do on it. Otherwise it's email, FB, etc. We don't even stream videos or play games.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone would know how the speed is. Also if there are any hidden costs. Like, if you go over your cell phone minutes, you're charged. Would this be the same thing?

Thoughts? Thanks!

Android for business needs VPN / SSL app

I need a Cisco VPN client without rooting the operating system, business would jump at the chance to use it to securely connect phones or tablets and gain true mobility. There seems to be a problem between Cisco and Google on support for Android.
Is there any beta clients out there for Android 2.2 ?

What phone/plan do I want if I want unlimited wifi calling?

I asked this in another thread, but it was related to the Optimus.
I dont yet have a cell phone. But I want to scrap my landline entirely and go cell. I talk a LOT on the phone at home, to family. I have been looking at the Virgin Mobile phones and plans. I want the cheapest way to talk unlimited at home (using wi-fi through my verizon dsl?) on the cell phone. And also to use it for checking email and such.
Can I purchase a cheap plan that would allow me some minutes while out and about, but is there a way to go through my dsl/wi-fi and get unlimitd talk and maybe surfing while at home?

VirginMobile Optimus question...using wi-fi to max minutes

I am a newbie here, but I was hoping someone might answer my questions. I hate Verizon, they lie cheat and steal. I have local phone and dsl from them for $60/month. I would like to stop supporting them, so looking at getting this phone and somehow getting internet elsewhere.
My question is, say I get this phone and the $25/month plan. If I activate the phone, can you still use wi-fi while at home to somehow make unlimited calls. and if so, how? Google talk? And then save the 300 minutes for use when out and about?
Or, is my best bet just to not activate it and only use it on wi-fi at home and not have portability?
And, say one month I decide not to top up. Can I still use it at home on wi-fi, or does it no longer work?
I talk a LOT at home, but not sure I want to pay $60 for the unlimited plan. THANKS!

How to find track info?

I am going to rip a large number of LPs to my hard drive for use on an Ipod later. I would like to find a way to input the track and artist information as easily as possible. Is this something that ITunes can handle? Does it make a difference which format I convert them into? Is there another website or program I can use? I don't want to have to manually input all this information. Thanks.

So should I delete my 360 Share Pro?

I've been reading the threads here and first off I'm going to say that I don't know much about music download programs. While searching for Shareaza to download (a friend told me she uses it) I ended up with 360 Share Pro (don't know how the hell I did but anyway!)
It's working fine but I've been scared now from reading these posts about the RIAA coming after you. How come they get some people and not others? All my friends have things like Shareaza and Limewire downloaded so how come they haven't been caught?
Also, 360 Share Pro said that what I paid was a one-off fee; they won't try and charge me again will they? Cos can't they do anything now that they have my cc details?

I-tunes

Can anyone help with the following: When I open I-tunes I see all my music listed; but, when I click to open a song I get a message saying that the original file can't be found. Help please!
